Muck In Day - Woodland work
Sunday 8th December 2019 at 10.00am to Sunday 8th December 2019 at 12.30pm
Muck In on the Eastern Moors to help care for the place we love
Join us for the final Muck In Day of the year to help care for your local environment by removing plastic tree guards from the millenium plantation in Curbar Woods.
Meet in Curbar Gap car park at 10am.
When we plant trees we use plastic tree guards to protect them from grazers such as deer. This gives the saplings a head start in life and now we have an amazing native woodland growing under Curbar Edge! However, the tree guards are now redundant and must be collected to help tidy up this beautiful woodland and keep it in the best condition for both the wildlife and people who love it. You can help us by cutting the guards off the now mature trees and bagging them up to be removed from the woodland. These old guards will then recycled to help us reduce our waste!
Meet at Curbar Gap car park at 10am. There will be a short walk to the work site, which will involve walking along a road. We'll then return to the car park for 12.30pm.
What to bring
All tools will be provided, including work gloves. Please come dressed appropriately for the weather in warm and waterproof layers as required. Good sturdy footwear is essential or you may not be able to participate. Please wear walking boots or similar with a good grip and ankle support. We will stop for a brew and biscuits but if you wish to bring other food or cold drinks with you please do. A small rucksack to carry everything is recommend, as there is usually a short walk to the work site.
Muck In Days are an opportunity for everyone to get involved with volunteering. Suitable for all ages and abilities - students, couples, retirees and families - come along and give it a go. Please note toilets are rarely available onsite. Please ensure you dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy closed toe footwear.
